Tons of Texture for the May Pal’s Blog Hop

2016badge-watermelon

Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop for May 2016.  We are thankful you stopped by to take a look at our new 2016 Blog Hop monthly themes.  This month we are featuring projects that are “stepped up” by using textures or fun techniques. We hope to provide you with lots of ideas and that you enjoy our creations.

You may just be starting the Blog Hop or may have come from the previous link from the Line-up on the Pals Blog Hop listing shown below.  The full lineup will help you move along from blog to blog so you may see all the projects.

As soon as Mary announced the theme for this month’s blog hop, I knew that I was in. I have been having a lot of fun making cards using the Timeless Textures stamp set found in Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Occasions Catalog. Here is my card.

Hummingbird Card 2

Tips, Tricks and Insights:

  • Textured Backgrounds:  Both of the Whisper White layers have texture from the beautiful Timeless Textures stamp set. Below are close-ups of both layers so that you can get a closer look at how I created the appearance of texture using two Stampin’ Up! ink colors: Crumb Cake and Soft Suede.

  • Wooden Elements: The beautiful, soon to be retired, Expressions Natural Elements adds such a great texture to any card. You can leave them natural or color them using a Sponge Dauber and Stampin’ Up! ink to compliment the colors within your card. Easily apply them to your card using Glue Dots.
  • Color Inspiration: If you like this color combination I encourage you to click on the image below to add it to one of your Pinterest Boards.

Masculine Sweet 16 Birthday Card

One of the young men in our youth group celebrated his 16th birthday this past week. His mom held a sudden surprise party for him. I couldn’t go without a card; so I whipped this together in about 30 minutes!

16th Birthday Front

Having no real plan for this card, I needed some tools that could give this card a little wow for a young man. So I turned to some of my new supplies from Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Occasions Catalog.

Tips, Tricks and Insights:

  • Fun with Confetti: Using the Confetti Textured Impressions Embossing Folder was a quick way to maximize the real estate on the card front and minimize the thinking that I had to do to create this card. I took a risk and colored each bit of confetti with multiple Stampin’ Write Markers. Pleased with how it turned out; I stuck to my plan.
  • Large Numbers:  It was a no-brainer to use the Number of Years stamp set and Large Numbers Framelits to decorate the oval in the center of all of the confetti. Bundle and save 15% by purchasing these two items together through May 31st.
  • Party on the Inside!: The fun doesn’t end on the outside of the card. Take a look at the inside that I created very easily using the Party Pop-Up Thinlits Dies and multiple shades of Stampin’ Write Markers.
    16th Birthday Inside

All of the students at the surprise party oohed and ahhhed over this card! Little did they know, my Stampin’ Up! tools and supplies, made creating this card very easy! 🙂

Thank you for stopping by my blog today!

Blessings, Kelly

InKing Royalty Retiring Colors Blog Hop

In Colors Blog Hop

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s April Blog Hop! Stampin’ Up! announced it’s retired list yesterday – while we are sad to see some of our favorite products leave the catalog, we are certain that some amazing new products are on their way. As we introduce the 2016-2018 In Colors to you, we know we have to say goodbye to the 2014-2016 In Colors. Today’s Blog Hop is filled with inspiring projects that share some great ideas – featuring Hello Honey, Lost Lagoon, Tangelo Twist, Blackberry Bliss and Mossy Meadow. After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

Do you believe in love at first sight? It was that way for me when I was first introduced to Blackberry Bliss. Deep, rich, vibrant! Who could ask for anything more in a color? So when Brian King invited his team to participate in this blog hop, I knew that I would reach for Blackberry Bliss. It will be very hard to say goodbye to this gorgeous color. Below is the card I made for today’s blog hop.

LIfe's Little Moments Butterfly Card 2

While the ink and card stock are a perfect match, they never photograph that way. Rest assured, the purple ink that you see in this picture is Blackberry Bliss and a perfect match with the beautiful pigment within the card stock.

Tips, Tricks and Insights:

  • Butterfly:  Although it includes two layers and three colors, this butterfly couldn’t be any easier to make. It was simple to do with the 3-step stamp images from Watercolor Wings and the Big Shot dies from the Bold Butterfly Framelits and Butterflies Thinlits collections. The top layer was trimmed on Velum card stock and sponged from behind to compliment the stamped butterfly beneath it.
    LIfe's Little Moments Butterfly
  • Label: I tried multiple combinations of punches and framelits until I landed on the one used for this card, which turned out to include a combination of the Deco Labels Framelits and Circles Framelits.
    LIfe's Little Moments Closeup
  • Ribbon: You might be scratching your head and saying, “Now where did Kelly get that ribbon from?” Take a close look. It happens to be the Whisper White 5/8” Organza Ribbon! I added color using the Basic Gray ink pad and Stampin’ Sponges.
  • Color Combination: If you like this color combination I encourage you to click on the image below to add it to one of your Pinterest Boards.

  • Supplies: If you don’t already have your own demonstrator, and would like to order any of the supplies used to make today’s card, you can click on the image to go directly to my online store. Once there you can search for each item by name.
    • Stamp Sets: Watercolor Wings, Timeless Textures
    • Ink:  Basic Gray, Smoky Slate, Blackberry Bliss, Perfect Plum
    • Card Stock / Paper: Basic Gray, Blackberry Bliss, Whisper White, White Vellum
    • Accessories:  Rhinestone Basic Jewels, Bold Butterfly Framelits, Butterflies Thinlits, Circles Framelits, Deco Labels Framelits, Glue Dots, Whisper White 5/8” Organza Ribbon, Stampin’ Sponge

CASE-ing with Botanical Blooms for the Pals Blog Hop

2016badge-watermelon

Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop for February 2016. We are thankful you stopped by to take a look at our new 2016 Blog Hop monthly themes.  This month we are CASE-ing a project shown in a current Stampin’ Up! catalog. After all, with the Annual, Occasions and Sale-a-Bration catalogs available right now, there is much inspiration to choose from. We hope you enjoy our creations.

You may just be starting the Blog Hop or may have come from the previous link from the Line-up on the Pals Blog Hop listing shown below.  The full lineup will help you move along from blog to blog so you may see all the projects.

As I paged through the Annual catalog, I stopped on page 100. I immediately envisioned CASE-ing this layout using the new Botanical Blooms Stamp Set and coordinating products.

BotanicalBloomsFebBlogHogCard

Tips, Tricks and Insights:

  • Bundle and save 15% by purchasing the Botanical Blooms Stamp Set, and coordinating Botanical Gardens DSP and Botanical Builders Framelits; all of which were used to make this gorgeous card.
  • Another great accessory that coordinates with this bundle is the Botanical Gardens Designer Washi Tape. Just as the sample from which I CASEd this card used Washi Tape, I was able to use coordinating washi tape on my beautiful botanical card.
    BotanicalBloomsFebBlogHogCardCloseup
  • The Envelope Liners Framelits provide the right finishing touch. With so many gorgeous patterns in the Botanical Gardens DSP, I selected one for use on the inside of the envelope.

Clean and Simple Card for the Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge

This week’s Pals Paper Arts Challenge, PPA284, features a cool sketch by Maggie Mata.

PPA-284-Jan21

As I examined the sketch, I thought about all of the people that were on my “Need to make a card for” list. The semi-circle in the background was what challenged me the most given the cards I needed to make. But then it dawned on me! Last night, as we were having dinner with our friends/neighbors (before the big Blizzard in the Northeast), we were looking online for wedding invitations for their daughter, Sarah. Sarah showed me a sample of one she liked that included gold, wine and white and a texture that resembled the Boho Chic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I could see using that for the angled panel on the front and keeping the pop of gold as part of the circle. Therefore, I decided to make an engagement card for Sarah and Shane, using their wedding colors and this sketch.

PPA284Card - Kelly DeTommaso

Tips, Tricks and Insights:

  • Keeping Things Straight:  I wanted the Boho Chic pattern to be straight vertically, rather than straight with the bottom edge of the Blackberry Bliss card stock. To keep it straight on the card, I angled it inside the embossing folder.
    Boho Chic Embossing Folder
  • Layered Circles: I used two tools to create the layered circles. The 2-1/2″ Circle Punch was used for the Gold Glimmer Paper Circle and the Circles Collection Framelits Dies were used for the Blackberry Bliss and Whisper White Circles. The Blackberry Bliss circle sits behind the textured panel to honor Maggie’s sketch a little more closely.
    Power of Two Circles
  • Never Underestimate the Power of Tear & Tape Adhesive: One of the must have items in my craft room is the new Tear & Tape Adhesive. It is perfect to adhere the Whisper White Circle to the Gold Glimmer Paper.

Today was a great day to make cards! We were hunkered down during the “Blizzard of 2016” here in Southeastern, Pennsylvania. Here is a picture of me with Keona in the afternoon. At this point we have 2 feet of snow and it’s not done snowing yet! My husband just brought a glass of wine down to my craft room for me and said, “lets hope there are no emergencies, because we aren’t going anywhere!” #shovelingcanwait! 🙂

Keona had surgery on her left eye last week, so she looks a little funny. Her fur is growing back around her eye.

Botanical Gardens for the InKing Royalty Blog Hop

So In Love hop

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s January Blog Hop!  Today’s So In Love Blog Hop is filled with inspiring projects that share ideas for Valentine’s Day or new products we love.  We are excited to share what we’ve made and hope you’ll find great inspiration from our talented team members in this hop.  After you read my post, I  hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

Botanical Explosion Box Card

I selected the Botanical Gardens Bundle and Jewels to showcase since I fell in love with the entire suite of Botanicals products. Additionally, I thought it would be really cool to show-off these beautiful botanicals in a Card in a Box. It’s the first time I ever tried to create a Card in a Box and found it so much easier than it looks.

Tips, Tricks and Insights:

  • Botanical Gardens Bundle:  This bundle includes 3 great products, the Designer Series Paper, the Stamps, and the Framelits. You save 15% when you bundle these three products, PLUS, you can get the Hello Sale-a-bration stamp set, used on this tag, for free!
  • Extra Layer Inside the Box: As I inserted all of the botanicals inside the box, I determined that I wanted an extra insert, giving me an extra layer to stagger my flowers. Here is a bird’s eye view of the completed box.
    Botanical Card Close-up
  • Perfectly Sized: You may be wondering how to fit this into an envelope. It folds flat and fits perfectly into one of Stampin’ Up!’s Medium Envelopes.
    Botanical Explosion Card closed
  • Finishing Touches: A card this beautiful requires a beautiful envelope. There are so many beautiful patterns of paper in the Botanical Gardens Designer Series Paper that I had a hard time choosing which one to use. I opted for the Mellow Moss grassy pattern and trimmed it using the Envelope Liners Framelits.
    Botanical Explosion Card and Envelope
  • A Touch of Class: As if this card isn’t classy enough, the Botanical Gardens Jewels add an elegant touch to the flower on the tag.

Rose Garden for the PPA Color Challenge

The inspiration for today’s card came from a friend of mine, Vicki Fell. She sent me a picture of a beautiful card that she made using some retired embossing plates that I had given her. I fell in love with her card and the layout and asked her if she wouldn’t mind if I CASEd her card. She didn’t mind at all. I came up with this card. Her original card is shown below mine. I also designed my card based on the latest color challenge from the Pals Paper Arts, PPA #283.

PPA-283-Jan14

My Card:

Vicki Fell’s Card:

Tips, Tricks and Insights:

  • Stained Glass Velum:  The Roses were made using the new Rose Garden Thinlits dies and Vellum behind the cut outs. To color the vellum, use a Sponge Dauber to apply ink in circular motions.
  • Free Sale-a-bration Items: You can earn free products from Stampin’ Up! through March 31st with every $50 in purchases (before tax and shipping). I used two Sale-a-bration products on today’s card:
    • The Perfect Pairings stamp set available is designed so that the stamps within the set pair together. The paired sentiments include script and plain text fonts for multiple occasions.
    • The double-sided Perfectly Artistic Designer Series Paper includes both subtle and dramatic marbled designs in 12 colors. These papers add the appearance of texture to your projects.
  • Measurements: The measurements for today’s card are listed below from the outside-in / bottom-up:
    • Basic Black Base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ (scored at 4-1/4″)
    • Whisper White Front Panel: 5-3/8″ x 4-1/8″
    • Basic Black Frame: 4-1/8″ x 3-5/8″
    • Melon Mambo Perfectly Artistic DSP: 4″ x 3-1/2″

Be Mine Card

Tips, Tricks and Insights:

  • Heart to Heart:  The elegant Shimmery White heart is backed with Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper to give it magnificent shimmer and shine. The Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper was fussy cut to fit perfectly behind the elegant Bloomin’ Heart Die cut heart.

I added a Wink of Stella to the foliage in the Be Mine Banner which was stamped using images from the Bloomin’ Love stamp set and trimmed using the Large Numbers Thinlits Dies.
    Be Mine Wink of Stella
  • Tools of the Trade: The Precision Plate and Big Shot Brush allowed me to easily cut the elegant heart from the Bloomin’ Heart Thinlits Die and leave all of the little pieces behind without any effort.

Birthday Bling for the PPA Sketch Challenge

Do you have a new favorite product yet from the 2016 Occasions Catalog or Sale-a-bration brochure? I have several. But the one product that I’ve used the most so far is the Large Numbers Framelits Dies which coordinates with the Number of Years stamp set. There is so much that you can do with these. Take today’s card for example, while there is nothing special about turning 17, there is something very special about the young lady this is going to. When used with this sketch from Pals Paper Arts Challenge #282, and the gorgeous Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper as the backdrop of the cut out numbers, this card shows the recipient just how special her birthday is!

Below is my card and the PPA sketch.

B-Day card for PPA282

PPA-282-Jan07

Tips, Tricks and Insights:

  • Maximizing the Layout:  I wanted this card to say “Happy 17th Birthday”, not just have a big “17” and the words Happy Birthday on the card. To put the sentiments in the right order, I stamped the “Happy” from the Number of Years stamp set on it’s side on the Tip Top Taupe Deco Label cut out. Then, I placed the Blushing Bride Glimmer numbers in the center of the cut out label, stamped the “th” banner from the Number of Years stamp set and placed that banner to the right of the numbers. Finally, I masked off the word “Happy” from the Perfect Pairings Sale-a-Bration stamp set and inked just the word Birthday using the Tip Top Taupe marker and placed that on the rectangular piece of Whisper White card stock. I love how this turned out.

  • Two DSPs: It may be hard to tell but I used two sets of Designer Series Paper for this card. In the background there is a piece of marbled Crumb Cake DSP from the Perfectly Artistic Sale-a-Bration DSP. It gives my card a bit of a textured looked. You can get this free with a $50 purchase. The other DSP is the patterned Mint Macaron design from the “It’s My Party” Designer Series Paper Stack. This is a must-have pack of paper! You get so many patterns for celebrations plus a few more subtle patterns for cards such as mine. I used another piece of this DSP on a New Year’s card. You can check that card out here, which placed in the Top 3 for the “Welcome to the New Year Challenge”.

Celebrate with a Bunch of Bears!

Today is January 5th and marks the launch of Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Occasions Catalog and Sale-a-bration! Today’s card combines 3 new products with existing products in a fun and unique design.

Bunch of Bears Card

Tips, Tricks and Insights:

  • Bear Hugs:  This new versatile set can be used for baby cards, masculine cards, valentines, and mother’s day cards. Save 15% by bundling it with the coordinating Bear Hugs Framelits making it easy to trim a variety of the stamped images. Stampin’ Up! created a great project using this bundle and showcases it in this video:

  • Paper Dolls: The three bears in the front are all connected on one sheet of card stock. The two bears in the back were cut out individually and were strategically placed in the back. For what it’s worth, I wanted to try a paper doll concept with the bear framelit. My finished card design doesn’t quite show this technique off as much as I’d hoped it would. Yet, I’ll explain how the three bears in the front are all connected on a single sheet of card stock:
    • The Very Vanilla card stock was scored 3 times slightly smaller than the width of the framelit (My original thought was a set of 4 bears)
    • The folded piece of Very Vanilla was placed on top of tab 2 and held in place with Post-it Tape.
      Bunch of Bears Folded
    • I ran it through the Big Shot a few times, yet the last two layers didn’t get completely cut, therefore I had to snip them around the outlined edges left by the Framelit. The result was a set of 4 bears holding hands, cute, huh?
      Bunch of Bears Standing
    • Then I stamped the small bear with Early Espresso Ink and water colored each using Crumb Cake and Sahara Sand ink.
  • Going out of the lines: To add a little character to the design of this card I decided to frame the bears with a scalloped semi-circle complimenting the curve in the “Congrats!” sentiment from the Bravo stamp set. To achieve this look, I stamped the sentiment on two pieces of Very Vanilla Card stock with Bermuda Bay ink. I fussy cut one and adhered it behind the other which was stamped onto the scalloped semi-circle. Here are a few visuals to show you what I did.
    • Step 1: Cut a portion of the Very Vanilla Card stock using the Scalloped Framelit from the Ovals Dies.
      Big Shot Oval
    • Step 2: Stamp Congrats! onto the scalloped semi-circle, running off the edges.
    • Step 3: Stamp Congrats! onto a separate piece of Very Vanilla card stock and fussy cut it.
      Congrats Stamped twice
    • Step 4: Adhere the fussy cut Congrats! behind the scalloped semi-circle.
      Congrats

This would be a fun card to give to a co-worker from the rest of the team. It’s really very easy to make; give it a try.
